South Myrtle Beach

Did you know that Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are two separate cities? Myrtle Beach is considered the heart of the Grand Strand and includes attractions like Broadway at the Beach and Hard Rock Park.

North Myrtle Beach was formed in 1968 from the beachside communities of Windy Hill, Cherry Grove, Crescent Beach, and Ocean Drive. North Myrtle Beach is just a few miles north of Myrtle Beach itself, and is home to Barefoot Landing, Alabama Theatre, and many other attractions.

Confusion between the two cities have led a few people to think that there is a South Myrtle Beach. The southern end of Myrtle Beach near Georgetown, Pawleys Island, and Murrells Inlet is a great place to vacation, but it has no official name. You'll find busier, more exciting stretches of beach on the southern end compared to the quieter northern end.
